Phase Flicker Induced Sharpness Deterioration of Holographic Images in LCoS
Phase flicker in LCoS devices can decrease the effective phase modulation resolution by introducing overlapped phase oscillation between adjacent modulated grey levels, thus degrading the performance of LCoS devices in various applications. Nevertheless, the effect of phase flicker on holographic display is often overlooked. From the application level, we investigate the quality of the holographic reconstructed image, especially sharpness, under the static and dynamic effect of different flicker magnitude. It is found the image sharpness will decrease dramatically at the very beginning of the flicker magnitude increment and tend to flat after a saturation point, which presents an overall L-like curve. Both simulation and experiment reveal that the increment in the magnitude of phase flicker causes an equal sharpness deterioration as the reduction of the numbers of hologram phase modulation levels.
