On 11 June, the CPDS group welcomed Alexandra Szemjonov, Materials Scientist and R&D Project Lead at Sky, as a guest speaker for our weekly research seminar.
Alexandra presented her work on improving the optical efficiency of the multilayer material stack used in QLED televisions, a key factor in maximising overall device performance. The seminar explored how individual optical layers are designed to meet specific material requirements, while highlighting the importance of system-level interactions that ultimately determine light utilisation within the complete display.
The talk demonstrated how combining experimental prototyping with multiscale modelling can help optimise QLED display architectures by integrating both material-specific and system-level considerations. Alexandra also shared insights from industrial research and development, providing CPDS PhD researchers and Research Associates with a valuable perspective on the challenges and opportunities in advanced display technologies.
The seminar was followed by a lively discussion on materials design, optical modelling, and the future development of energy-efficient display systems.
